The Abyss

Falling, falling, always falling. It was like a black hole, an endless tunnel, never ceasing, never letting up; a black abyss that swallowed everything, the good, the bad, everything. When it had taken all, the only thing left was an empty husk. No spark of life existed, glassy eyes looking out onto the world, unseeing. He was deaf to all. He didn’t know what was happening until it had taken him and squeezed out his whole life. Left barren in world of life, he was dead.

Day by day everyone saw the change in him. They wanted to say something, but the words refused to come. It was like an invisible hand had seized their tongues, preventing them from helping him. Hopelessly, they watched him sink lower and lower.

Finally, the descent came to an end and they thought he would get better. How wrong they were. At the bottom of the abyss, in the center of the black hole, there is no going back. He was trapped, doomed to live a life in limbo, never knowing what was going on in the world.

“Let me out!” He screamed to the world, but the world was beyond caring. He was lost, adrift in a world of sounds he could not hear, colours he could not see. Nothing made sense; he was stuck, bound forever to this fate. Everything was gone and he didn’t know how to find anything, not even himself. It was a fate worse than death, but one he would endure for all eternity.
